A New Writing Genre?

I came across a post on an educational blog, Blogging as Genre, with an interesting concept of webblogs being defined as a new genre. What makes blog writing different than any other form of writing is having the possibility of it being read and commented on by many users without going through a third party (publisher). This information is geared toward teachers and using weblogs in the classroom but anyone with a blog can benefit from exploring it further. Weblogg-ed.

How to Make Web Writing Come Alive

I found this article, Web Writing Workshop: How to Make Web Writing Come Alive by Ron Scheer. The article uses Richard Lanham’s 8-step Paramedic Method to revive dull or dead prose and energize your online writing style.

The information was taken from Richard Lanham’s book, Revising Business Prose. I’m not really interested in writing business text but I do know that writing for the Web is different than writing for print. Readers will not spend as much time reading online text as they will a book, magazine, or newspaper. Even in print an author must capture the readers attention quickly to keep them reading but writing for the Web requires the author to get to the point right away or risk loosing his/her audience. This article can help anyone wanting a more clear and concise writing style.

Writing for the Web

I just found a great blog about writing, Writing for the Web, by Canadian author Crawford Kilian. While the main blog is about writing for the Web (which I found interesting and informative), he has other types of writing blogs that include non-fiction. All are linked to on the main blog. I haven’t read through everything yet but plan on spending some quality time exploring the information like a hungry tiger! ;)
